There are several ways to access Companies Office data. Which method you use depends on what you need.

If you want information about a small number of companies (or other business entities), you can search the register yourself.

Select the register you want

If you're not sure what type of entity you're looking for you can search all the registers with one simple search on the New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) website.

If you need information for a large number of entities, you can make a data request instead.

Check our monthly statistics

Each month we release statistics from the Companies Register including the numbers of company:

  • incorporations
  • removals
  • liquidations
  • receiverships, and
  • voluntary administrations.

Download bulk data

If you want a monthly data set or to manually extract data, you can download the entire public data set for the Companies Register and the NZBN Register (public sector entities, sole traders, partnerships and trusts) by requesting access to our bulk data.

We update this data every month, and once you have access you can download it free of charge, anytime.

Companies Register files are available in JSON and CSV formats. NZBN information is available in JSON only.

Connect to our APIs

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) allow your system to retrieve information from us automatically. If you want to integrate our data with your own applications or systems, especially if you want real-time information, you are best to use one or more of our APIs.

There are APIs for the following registers:

  • Companies Register
  • Disclose Register
  • Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR), and
  • New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) Register.
