Insolvency Practitioners regime now in full effect

The new co-regulatory licensing regime for insolvency practitioners came into full effect on 1 September 2021.

From Tuesday 1 September 2021, all formal insolvency engagements such as voluntary administrations, receiverships and insolvent liquidations, both ongoing and new, must only be undertaken by a licensed insolvency practitioner.

It is important to note that solvent liquidations can still be undertaken by qualified statutory accountants and lawyers, as well as by licensed insolvency practitioners.

You can search the Insolvency Practitioners Register for details of licensed practitioners.

If you’re a practitioner who needs to apply for a licence you need to contact the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) — currently the only accredited body under the new regime.
