Searching the Business Registers

You can search directly on the Business Registers by visiting businessregisters.govt.nz and clicking on the ‘Search for a business’ button on the home page.

Your search options

To search the Business Registers, navigate to the ‘Search’ tab and select the type of search you wish to conduct from the drop-down menu.

There are two types of search:

Please note that not all business registers will have a role search available.

Each search type has its own ‘advanced’ search criteria. See ‘Advanced search options’.

Searching different registers

By selecting 'Search Business' you can choose to search multiple registers from the drop-down list.

You can also search by business name or NZBN, and conduct either a ‘starts with’ or ‘equals’ (exact match) search.

Please note the business industry code description is available only to sole traders, partnerships and trading trusts.

Select the business name to view the information for that business. Please note only publicly available information will be displayed.

Exporting your search results

You can sort your results by ascending or descending order, and save your results either as a PDF or Excel file.
